Orientation
There are basically three sections of the Churchyard: the Old Churchyard, the 1888 Extension, and the 1938 Extension (see Plan A). As of March 2024 we have worked systematically only on the 1888 Extension, and even this work is not finished. In a sense the work is never ‘finished’, since there is always the possibility of new information coming to light.
If you are looking for a particular individual, the Indexes (Index of Burials to 1887 and Index of Burials from 1888) will give you the location of the burial. If the burial is after 1887, you can then go to the Databases (Database of the 1888 Extension and Database of the 1938 Extension) to see if we have researched that individual. We have not yet researched anyone buried before 1888.
Plans of the Churchyard
Plan A shows the various sections of the Churchyard in relation to each other and to the Old Church and surrounding streets. Plan B, by Katherine Slay, shows the location of headstones in the Old Churchyard; it is keyed to her transcription of the inscriptions on the stones. Plan C, by Ken Green and Hilda Yardley, shows the layout and numbering of the 1888 and 1938 Extensions.
